  • TAVR/TAVI: A revolutionary, non-surgical way to replace the aortic valve via a catheter inserted through the groin, now increasingly used for the more complex tricuspid valve as well.

  • AI Surgical Planning: Surgeons now use Artificial Intelligence and 3D-printed models of a patient’s specific heart to practice complex maneuvers before the actual operation.

  • RNA-Targeted Therapies: Emerging treatments are being used alongside surgery to biologically “reset” systems that cause high cholesterol or hypertension, reducing the need for repeat surgeries.


Recovery Timeline

Recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. While every patient is different, a general timeline looks like this:

  • Days 1–5: Hospital stay (ICU for the first 24–48 hours). You’ll be encouraged to sit up and walk short distances almost immediately.

  • Weeks 1–4: Recovery at home. You will likely have “sternal precautions” (no lifting more than 5–10 lbs) and will need to monitor your incisions for signs of infection (redness, warmth, or drainage).

  • Weeks 6–12: Cardiac Rehabilitation. This is a supervised exercise and education program designed to strengthen your heart and improve long-term outcomes.

  • Month 3+: Most patients can return to full physical activity, including driving and returning to work.
